Downtown open house slated

Seventeen stores are going to be putting on a big open house Friday evening and all day Saturday in downtown Ontario. They will be offering a chance to win a 42-inch color TV to the people who visit all the merchants participating in this promotion. All 17 stores will be collection points for the food bank, Treats for the Troops and a new venture, “Thinking of you, Soldier,” to send letters to as many military men and women as possible. College night scheduled

A college night will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 23 in the Malheur River Room at Four Rivers Cultural Center, 676 S.W. Fifth Ave., Ontario. College planning tips will be offered. Christmas bazaar on tap

The 28th annual Christmas bazaar will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 27 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Boulevard Grange, south of Ontario on Oregon Highway 201. There will be 30 vendors with many handmade items. The Grange ladies will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, chili, homemade pies and drinks. Country Western dance planned at Boulevard Grange

The monthly country Western dance sponsored by Boulevard Grange No. 389 will be from 8:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the hall, southwest of Ontario near Cairo Junction, 3890 Oregon Highway 201. A Christmas tree lighting is scheduled to take place at dusk Dec. 5 near the flag pole at Lions Park. Kinney & Keele Hardware has donated lights, but the tree-lighting committee is still seeking more light donations, as well as a star to be placed at the top of the tree. Elementary school children will sing and decorate the tree at the event.

Mobility Management Program planned

The Eastern Oregon Center for Independent Living is offering a free Mobility Management Program to seniors and people with disabilities with mobility needs. Turkey shoot planned

A turkey shoot will start with the first flight at 9 a.m. and the second flight at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 21 at 7U Hunting Ranch and Sporting Clays in Vale. Four-person teams will cost $200 per team. There will be 14 stations with 100 rounds to be shot. Prizes will be given to first-, second- and third-place teams and the high score overall.
