New Plymouth and Parma advance

Argus Observer sports staff

Kamiah —The New Plymouth Pilgrims did what needed to be done Saturday against the Kamiah Cubs as they came away with a 33-16 victory.

The Pilgrims were awarded a first-round bye in the Idaho 2A state football tournament, which head coach Porter Lacey turned out to be a blessing for his team as it gave them a chance to heal up before competing in the playoffs.

With the win, the Pilgrims advanced to the semifinals where they will face the 2008 runners-up in Declo.

New Plymouth will host the matchup at 7 p.m Friday.

Declo reached the semifinals with a double overtime win against Malad on Friday, 40-34.

In the other 2A semifinal, the defending champion Parma Panthers will battle the Glenns Ferry Pilots. Parma knocked off Nampa Christian in the quarterfinals Friday, 33-0, and Glenns Ferry advanced with a 36-20 win over North Fremont.

Parma will travel to Holt Arena in Pocatello for its game on Friday.

Kick off is slated for 8:45 p.m.
