ONTARIO
There will be a social gathering for the newly formed Lifelong Learners group at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Ontario Community Library. Discussion on various topics will be included. Refreshments will be served. Everyone of all ages is welcome.
The Lifelong Learners group is designed to promote discussion and learning on various topics. The first topic to be covered will be the world’s five major religions, which starts Jan. 7. One more of the religions will be covered in subsequent months through May.
Speakers who are knowledgeable on each religion will inform the audience on the main aspects of each religion. Also included will be segments from “The Great Courses,” a series of lectures from this country’s foremost experts on their subjects. Respected theologians from top universities are included in the five major religions program.
“America has nearly 500,000 college professors. Since 1990, we’ve identified the top 1 percent of professors based on their teaching awards, published evaluations of professors, newspaper write-ups of the best teachers on campus and other sources,” an article in “The Great Courses” magazine in 2009 states. “One in 5,000 college professors will ever rise to be on The Teaching Company’s faculty. Our professors are gifted scholars, enthusiasts, communicators and, yes, even entertainers.”
Lifelong Learners meets once a month at 1:30 p.m. on the first Thursday in the conference room at the Ontario Community Library. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday evening is also a possibility if there is enough interest to move the program to the evening. For more information, call (208) 230-4221.
