Armin A,
Washburn
May 11, 1920 - Oct. 28, 2009
Ontario
On Wednesday morning, Oct. 28, 2009, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was called home to be with his Lord. Armin was born to Ashley Amos Washburn and Lillie Eveline Matthews Washburn May 11, 1920, in Cascade, Idaho. Armin, along with his wife, Daphne, lived in Vale for 14.5 years and then in Payette for 47.5 years, moving to Ontario in August of this year. He served our country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II. A tireless community servant up until his body could do it no longer, Armin was very active in the American Legion, ODD Fellows and Rebeccas, Payette Senior Center and the Payette United Methodist Church. He also loved playing music and singing with his family, and he performed often with a group of friends at area senior centers and assisted living facilities. In 1929, at the age of 9, Armin’s love affair with the American automobile began when his dad brought home their first car, a Model T-Ford; Armin began driving and working on that car very soon after its arrival. He worked as an auto mechanic most of his working life, eventually owning his own repair business, Washburn Auto Repair in Payette, where he worked until he retired in 1986. Armin is survived by his best friend and wife of over 62 years, Daphne Pratt Washburn; six children, Gratia Hasness (Rollin), of Loon Lake, Wash., Verlinda Washburn, of Spokane, Wash., Anita Butler (Bill), of Juntura, Ore., Myrna Rogers (Jeff), of Grand Junction, Colo., Arminta Jensen (Glenn), of San Juan Batista, Calif., and Alan Washburn (Jana), of Rathdrum, Idaho; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Leila McGowan, Ruth Smith and Emma Wilson. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 502 N. 11th St., Payette. Graveside services will immediately follow with military honors at Rosedale Memorial Gardens, Payette. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Armin’s memory to the Payette Senior Center, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661. Condolences may be made to the family at
