ONTARIO — Need a change of pace?
Take a step back in time at “The Sting” at 7 p.m. Saturday at Four Rivers Cultural Center, 676 S.W. Fifth Ave., Ontario.
The annual Treasure Valley Community College Foundation scholarship fundraiser has offered patrons an evening of casino-style gaming, food, drinks and an atmosphere circa 1930 for more than 20 years, TVCC Foundation Executive Director Cathy Yasuda said.
“A lot of the folks come and get into the costumes of the era. We actually have a costume contest,” Yasuda said, clarifying costumes are not required. “It’s just a lot of fun. It’s really informal and casual.”
The tunes of TVCC’s Prime Time Jazz Band, craps, roulette, Texas Hold’em and blackjack are a few of the entertaining aspects of the event, which also includes all-you-can-eat food and two beverage vouchers in the ticket cost, Yasuda said.
Until Friday, tickets can be purchased for $20. Afterward, tickets cost $25. The event is for people 21 and older and also features raffles and live and silent auctions.
“We wanted to come up with a variety of things people can bid on,” Yasuda said. “We have things for just about everyone in the family.”
A few big-ticket items will be on the block for the live auction, Yasuda said, including a $1,000 TVCC scholarship, a plane ride with Roger Smith, two framed prints, a weekend vacation and a dessert package from the Ontario High School.
“The OHS Culinary Arts Department is giving us two certificates for one dessert a month for six months,” Yasuda said. “And these are amazing desserts. They’ll all be put together in a certified kitchen at the high school.”
Yasuda said The Sting is the signature fundraising event for the TVCC Foundation, which provides scholarships to students at TVCC.
“It’s a lot of fun,” Yasuda said of The Sting. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s a great event.”
Tickets to The Sting can be purchased from any TVCC Foundation board member, by calling the foundation office, (541) 881-8822, ext. 201, or in Ontario at the Bank of the West, Sterling Savings Bank, Red Apple Marketplace, Malheur Federal Credit Union and the Four Rivers Cultural Center Gift Shop.
