Sunnyvale Calif.

Richard R. Schappert, 78, formerly of Sunnyvale, Calif., died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, in Weiser. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Riverside Cemetery, Payette with Pastor Dennis Dickinson officiating. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Richard was born March 11, 1931, in Goshen, Ind., to Peter J. and Alma S. (Engblade) Schappert. He worked for the railroad before enlisting in the Air Force in 1951. Richard served one year in Okinawa and three years in Florida. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the Veterans Administration and the U.S. Postal Service until he moved to California where he worked for Heublein as a maintenance engineer for 20 years.Richard fought a courageous battle with cancer, resulting in his move to Idaho to be with family. He supported various charities and was very thoughtful and generous with friends, family, or anyone in need of assistance. He is survived by five brothers, John, of Yucca Valley, Calif., Robert, of Omaha, Neb., William, of Ontario, Ron, of Fruitland, and Leonard, of Fort Dick, Calif.; two sisters, Lillian Owens  and Carol Goff, both of Payette; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Peter John and Alma Sophie Schappert; and a sister, Alma Lorain Durrett. He will be missed.

Memorials may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank or Seventh-day Adventist Community Center Food Bank, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
