PAYETTE — A New Plymouth man is in stable condition at Holy Rosary Medical Center after he was stabbed during an altercation in front of a Payette residence Wednesday night.
Payette Police Chief Mark Clark said today dispatch received a call of a fight in progress in the 1200 block of Sixth Avenue North in which somebody was injured and a knife was involved.
When the officers arrived, several subjects were in the driveway of the residence, and police found the victim, Joe Carranza, 19, New Plymouth, unconscious in the front seat of a vehicle parked outside of the residence. Clark said Carranza had four stab wounds to his chest and back.
Another person who was involved in the incident, Erin Kinney, 28, Weiser, appeared to have her jaw broken during the altercation.
Clark said Kinney, the victim and the two unidentified males arrived at the residence Wednesday evening and began to bang on windows and doors demanding to see somebody who they thought lived there. At that point, one of the residents, David Tellez, 26, confronted the people in a verbal altercation and then a physical altercation that resulted in the stabbing.
A knife believed to have been used in the incident was found in the home. Tellez was arrested for aggravated battery and lodged in Payette County Jail.
Clark said the incident is suspected to be drug-related, and the people came to the residence trying to collect money from somebody. No drugs were found at the scene, however, some of the people involved are known among illegal narcotics circles Clark said.
“Right now we’re conducting interviews and still investigating,” Clark said, adding police are trying to identify the two other males who were at the residence. He said it is possible other charges could be filed. Clark said, at the time of the incident, Kinney’s three children were sitting in the vehicle, and police are going to be discussing potential child endangerment charges.
