Payette girls win in Jerome, advance to state

JEROME — The Payette girls soccer team advanced to the 3A girls state soccer tournament Saturday following a 3-1 play-in victory over American Falls in Jerome.

Leslie LaMue, Mayra Flores and Jordan Rodriguez each posted goals for the Pirates, who improved to 10-4-2 with the win.

“We played all right,” coach Gordon Peterson said. “Good enough to win, but not our best by any means.”

The Pirates next play at 11 a.m. Thursday at Vallivue High School in Caldwell, with an opponent to be announced, Peterson said.

The Pirates’ season has had its ups and downs, Peterson said, and the girls have struggled at times, but, overall, everyone is pleased to have gone so far.

“So we’ll just start from scratch and prepare ourselves for state now,” Peterson said.
