Beth C. Archibald died peacefully in her sleep in Springfield, Ore., Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at the age of 91. Beth was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Hyde Park, Utah, to Junius Everett Christensen and Vera Thurston. She was the third child of 11 children. Beth and her siblings took on responsibilities on their farm and learned the meaning of hard work at a very young age.
Beth completed school through the eighth grade, then had to quit to help on the farm. Beth, however, went on to graduate from beauty school Sept. 28, 1935. She had her own beauty shop. Beth married Sheldon Keith Archibald in the Logan Temple, Oct. 13, 1937 and were the proud parents of three girls. Beth and Sheldon both worked during World War II at the Bushnell General Hospital for War Wounded. Beth was a wonderful seamstress and sewed all her girls’ clothing and many, many dance costumes. She loved doing crafts, and any time her girls were home they always had to do a craft project. She was also a great cook and was known for her homemade bread, which she shared with her many friends and neighbors. Beth worked in the Boise Temple for over 10 years. She loved working in the Temple and crocheted several alter cloths. She loved to crochet and crocheted hundreds of bandages for humanitarian aid. She continued to crochet until her death. She always said, “As long as I can still crochet, I'll be fine.” Beth was a wonderful, true elect lady, and all who knew her loved her dearly, especially her family. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived in numerous wards in the area.
Beth is survived by her three daughters, Colleen, and her husband, Dennis Ercanbrack, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Marilyn, and her husband, George, of Springfield, Ore., and Nyla and her husband, Royce, of Vale, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ariel and his wife, Marilyne Christensen, of Tucson, Ariz., and Rulon, and his wife, Kathy Christensen, of Boise, Idaho; and one sister, Wanda Child, of Provo, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon Keith Archibald; two stillborn siblings; her father; mother; three brothers, and two sisters.
Beth will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
