POST FALLS (AP) — Some schools in Post Falls and Horseshoe Bend have canceled classes because of a flu outbreak. Young says the school will be sterilized and will reopen Monday. More than half the teachers in the Horseshoe Bend School District were also out sick, prompting Superintendent John Cook to shut down the district’s three schools until Monday.

Ore. man sues
fertilizer company
PENDLETON — An Eastern Oregon man is suing one of North America’s largest fertilizer producers because of an anhydrous ammonia leak in 2007. The East Oregonian newspaper reports Stacey Hetterley of Athena wants Agrium U.S., two subsidiaries and a lone employee to collectively pay no more than $48,000 for his medical expenses. The leak, which prompted two schools to evacuate, occurred when a worker for one of the subsidiaries filled a truck with ammonia from a tank, but drove off before disconnecting the hose.
Agrium spokeswoman Cindy Andrews says the company anticipated the lawsuit because the two-year statute of limitations was running out.
She says Agrium has replanted grass and trees damaged by the ammonia, and the company is committed to working with everyone affected by the leak.
