Teen daughter of Air Force sergeant
missing
BOISE, (AP) — Mountain Home police say a 14-year-old girl reporting missing last week has been spotted several times around town.
Kiersten LeAnne Vasconcellos, the daughter of a technical sergeant assigned to the Mountain Home Air Force Base, was last seen at Mountain Home High School on Oct. 9, according to Sgt. Andrew Leonhard with the base.
Fate of UI research centers still
undetermined
LEWISTON (AP) — The University of Idaho says closing one or more of a 12 agriculture and extension centers is still an option, but a final decision could depend on negotiations with business and industry groups.
Provost Doug Baker says the state has made a significant investment in the centers, and the university is now trying to determine if private stakeholders are willing to invest as well.
The university is facing a $1.5 million shortfall in funding for a dozen agriculture and extension centers, which were already facing a $3.2 million funding cut this year.
Minnick rakes in cash in upcoming U.S. House race
BOISE (AP) — U.S. Rep. Walt Minnick, an Idaho Democrat, collected nearly $290,000 in campaign contributions since July, giving him a fundraising head start over Republican rivals who will be fighting it out in a contested primary next May.
Minnick brought in $287,000 between July 1 and Sept. 30, according to a Federal Election Commission report filed on Thursday.
He had more than $640,000 banked at the close of the period.
Vaughn Ward, a former campaign aide to GOP presidential contender John McCain, said he’s collected more than $110,000 from supporters, though his FEC report wasn’t immediately available on Thursday afternoon.
Ken Roberts, the Idaho House GOP majority caucus chairman who is running against Ward, brought in $54,920. He had nearly $42,000 cash on hand on Sept. 30.
