ONTARIO — “The Sting” paid off for Ontario resident Bob Quinn.
Quinn bought raffle tickets at last year’s “The Sting” held at Treasure Valley Community College and then won a two-minute shopping spree at Red Apple Marketplace.
Wednesday, Quinn hit the aisles at the Ontario grocery store, packing goods into a shopping cart. Quinn chose to use his raffle prize to help the Southeast Oregon Regional Food Bank, by donating all the food he could collect in two minutes to the bank.
Among those on hand to cheer him on were store owner Larry Robb and store manager Allen Wadley, with Robb adding a few products to the basket on his own; Peter Lawson, branch coordinator at the food bank; and Cathy Yasuda, executive director of the TVCC Foundation.
Quinn operates TQ Properties, the management company that owns the Holiday Inn Ontario, Holiday Inn Express, Roadway Inn, DJ’s Restaurant and the Country Kitchen, all in Ontario, plus properties elsewhere. He is also serving this year as president of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. For his effort, Quinn garnered nearly $340 in groceries, which also counts toward the “Ton Plus One” food drive, which has a goal of raising 4,001 pounds of food for the food bank. If the food comes in, Lawson and Dale Jefferies, radio station KSRV, will dress up as elves and ride on the Santa float in the Winter Wonderland Parade.
“It weighed 290 pounds,” Lawson said, of Wednesday’s donation. “It was fantastic.”
The Red Apple Marketplace shopping spree is one of the prizes again at this year’s raffle at “The Sting,” which will be held Nov. 7 in the Four Rivers Cultural Center. The evening features casino-style gaming, refreshments and silent and live auctions. All proceeds will from the event go to the TVCC Foundation for student scholarships. Tickets to “The Sting” are $20, if purchased by Oct. 31 and $25 after Oct. 31.
Raffle tickets are $10 for one, $25 for three and $50 for six.
“It’s our biggest signature fund-raiser of the year,” Yasuda said.
