Fruitland loses in OT to Baker

Fruitland-The fans got their monies worth and then some during the Fruitland Grizzlies homecoming overtime special against Baker  Friday.

In  a game that teetered back-and-forth for four quartrers, neither team was able to claim victory in regulation, overtime was called for.

Fruitland won the toss and had the first crack at scoring, but the Baker defense was up to the task and kept the Grizzlies at bay on three straight attempts.

No problem, send in the fieldgoal unit.

Problem, the kick hooked left. Game still tied.

The Bulldogs wasted no time on Fruitlands missed opportunity and punched the ball into the end zone on their first attempt.

Penalty marker down - holding

No problem. Baker tried the air attack and found success on a 20-yard fade to the right corner of the endzone. Touchdown, game over, Baker wins 34-27.

Other prep scores:

Weiser 25, Homedale 20

Nyssa 19, La Grande 15

Payette 29, McCall 12

Monument/Dayville 32, Adrian 26

" you may love to hear that fruitland lost but that doesnt really matter... what matters is that those guys worked their butts off for a good game. garnted some of them get really big headed but they deserve to... they are the best in the SRV so they have a right and one loss to an out of league team shouldnt matter either... we will see who loses when districts come around :) "

" I'm sure this was written quickly and isn't indicative of Scott's best work (or maybe it is), but this shoddy work is undermining the legacy of what once was a great sports section.
For instance, "quartrers" is spelled wrong. A simple click of spellcheck would have eliminated that. Last I check "fieldgoal" should actually be "field goal," and, if you want to be technical, with unit on the backside it should be field-goal unit. I see that we have end zone spelled two different ways in the story and I wasn't aware Fruitland changed its name to Fruitlands. Was it supposed to be Fruitland's?
I know the Argus has a new publisher, so please John Dillon do something to fix this and return some credibility to this section and to the paper as a whole. I used to love to read the Argus Observer sports section but it has become painful to see how bad it is now. "
