NYSSA — An event that has evolved into a local tradition will open Saturday night at the Malheur County Fairgrounds.
The 30th St. Peter Catholic School Barn Dance and Auction begins at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds with ticket prices set at $20 per person. Tickets at the door cost $25.
No one under 21 is admitted.
The event, which is held at the Red Barn at the Malheur County Fairgrounds, Ontario, features a live auction, a steak dinner with all the trimmings, a silent auction and dance. Live music will be provided by “Place Your Marker.”
“We will be celebrating alumni,” Mick Domingez, a member of the barn dance committee, said.
Among the highlights of this year’s event will be a 50/50 cash drawing, Domingez said.
The drawing will be done after the live auction, and people will need to be present to win.
Two major items up for auction will be four tickets to a Boise State game with seats in a skybox, dinner at Chandler’s and a stay at the Grove Hotel and “Santa for a night,” which will have Santa stopping at the buyer’s home, office or other location.
The latter also comes with Christmas basket. Also up for auction are tickets to the Humanitarian Bowl along with two tickets to a VIP pre-game tailgate party.
There will also be a special quilt for sale, with squares colored by students at St. Peter and the names of the first students at the school on it. There are about 200 items donated for the live and silent auctions, and there will be door prizes.
Eight of the auction items are donated by the school students and staff.
“We have about 72 students now,” Domingez said. “It has been amazing support from the community. We just feel really blessed as a school to receive this support.”
