Brian Thompson, 37, passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at his home in Parma. Friends and family may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Lienkaemper Chapel in Ontario, Ore., or from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. prior to services on Friday. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at the Parma LDS Church. Burial will follow at the Valley View Cemetery in Vale, Ore.
Brian was born in Caldwell, Idaho, to Terry and Karen Thompson. Although his family moved a lot when he was a child, Brian lived most of his life in Parma. He met and married Brenda Belnap in 1991. They made their home in Parma and have three daughters, Sharlynn, Kimberly and Clara. Brian’s family was very important to him. He was a great husband and father. He was a hero to his family, keeping his positive attitude and sense of humor up until the last hours of his life. When he was diagnosed with cancer in January 2008, he had many jobs. He worked for Treasure Valley Paramedics as an EMT-Intermediate; for Nyssa Police Department as reserve corporal; and kept up with his full-time career at SRCI in Ontario. He loved to stay busy and made many life-long friends through his association with these organizations. Previously, he worked for the Idaho Department of Corrections in Boise and the Wilder Police Department. Brian loved to read and was always learning something new. He especially liked to read about history. He loved to go fishing, camping and hunting. He completed police and corrections training at Oregon BPSST and Idaho POST academies, and EMT courses at TVCC. He earned his SCUBA diver’s license in 2007, shortly before he was diagnosed with cancer. In June 2008, because of the kindness and generosity of hundreds of people, he was able to use that license to dive in Maui, Hawaii. He was very grateful for that opportunity. Brian was a very honorable man. He possessed great integrity and a strong work ethic. He spent hundreds of hours in service to his community during his time at Treasure Valley Paramedics and the Nyssa Police Department. He also served in various church callings including scout leader. It was very important to him to “give back” to the community. He will be greatly missed by many people and remembered by all who knew him.
Brian is survived by his wife, Brenda Thompson; and daughters, Sharlynn, Kimberly and Clara, of Parma; his sister and brother-in-law, Starla and Charlie Kirkpatrick, and their family, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many extended family members. Brian is preceded in death by his parents, Terry and Karen Thompson; his grandparents, Marion Lee and Doris Thompson and John and Dolly Holmes; and one niece. Condolences can be made at
