Ontario — A 26-year-old Ontario man was Lifeflighted from Simplot Grower Solutions, where he worked, after getting caught in an auger Friday afternoon.
Ontario Fire & Rescue and Treasure Valley Paramedics responded to the incident, at 1700 S.W. Fourth St., which was reported at 1:26 p.m.
OF&R firefighter Todd Higinbotham said the man was caught in the auger and had to be extricated, which took about 14 minutes.
“We don’t know how (he did it). He just got his feet caught in it,” he said.
Higinbotham said it was unclear what the man was doing at the time he got his feet caught, either. He said, he thinks the auger was unloading something from a train car and moving it into a storage facility at Simplot when the accident occurred, but he wasn’t positive.
“I’m pretty sure that’s what was happening,” he said. “We were just concerned about getting him out of there and getting him the medical attention he needed.”
Higinbotham said he did not know where the man was Lifeflighted to, but that it was headed in the Boise direction. He said the man was taken by air ambulance instead of transported to Holy Rosary Medical Center because of his potential injuries.
Higinbotham said eight fire & rescue workers attended the scene using two rigs, a rescue vehicle and an engine.
