Mitchell named Offensive Player of the Week

GOLDEN, Colo.—Colorado School of Mines standout Kayla Mitchell was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for game’s played during the week of Aug. 31st.
It marks the fourth time in Mitchell’s career that she has received this honor.
Mitchell, a senior forward from Ontario, Ore. and a graduate of Ontario High School, scored one goal and tallied two assists in a pair of Oredigger victories.
In the Mines’ 2-0 win over Upper Iowa, Mitchell scored the game-winner and added an assist.
Mitchell recorded her third assist of the season in CSM’s 4-0 win over Concordia St. Paul.
In four games this season, Mitchell has a pair of goals, both game-winners, and three assists.
Last year, Mitchell scored 22 goals (six game-winners) ranking her second in the RMAC.
Mitchell established new CSM individual single-season records for goals, points (47), shots (127) and shots on goal (67) en-route to being named to the First-Team All-RMAC.
A Daktronics First-Team All-Central Region and NSCAA/Adidas Second-Team All-Central Region selection, Mitchell helped lead CSM to its first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
For her efforts in the classroom, Mitchell was named the RMAC Women’s Soccer Academic Player of the Year.
Mitchell also earned First Team NSCAA/Adidas College Scholar All-West Region and Third Team NSCAA/Adidas College Scholar (College Division) All-American honors.
As a sophomore in 2007, Mitchell started all 21 matches and led the Orediggers in goals (13), total points (29) and game-winning goals (seven).
Mitchell tallied three assists and was 4-for-5 on penalty kicks as she earned First Team All-RMAC and First Team Academic All-RMAC honors.
During the 2007 season, Mitchell tallied 11 goals and three assists. A Second Team All-RMAC selection, Mitchell led CSM in total points (25) as a true freshman.
In other Oredigger soccer news, the CSM women are ranked 20th in the NSCAA (National Coaches Association of America) Division II National Poll and tied for second in the Central Region.
It marks the first time in program history that the women have been ranked nationally.
The Orediggers (4-0) begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this week with a game at 1 p.m. on Friday at Metro State.
CSM will then come back and host New Mexico-Highlands at the CSM Soccer Stadium at Noon on Sunday.
