NAMPA (AP) — The Caldwell Police Department says 30-year-old Mario Armando Vasquez was the man fatally shot by police after a chase in Nampa on Sunday. The Caldwell department is leading the Critical Incident Task Force investigation into the shooting.
An Idaho State Police trooper pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 84 early Sunday morning. Two females got out of the car and ran, according to a press release from the Caldwell Police Department, and the vehicle then drove away toward Nampa. Two state troopers and two Nampa police officers gave chase, and the car stopped again near a strip mall. That’s when police say Vasquez got out and pointed a shotgun at the officers, and they began shooting, fatally wounded him.
