VALE — The Drexel H. Foundation will hold its annual Children’s Film Festival Wednesday and Sept. 5 at the Rex Theater in Vale.
The annual event features a free crash course in filmmaking, which will be taught by filmmaker Gino Caputi at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and a filmmaker competition at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5.
Caputi, an accomplished filmmaker, director and producer, is a former Vale High School graduate. His work can be found at
ginocaputi.com. He will teach how to take a story and make a film from it. At the end of the night, participants will have written a short script and shot their film as a group. The finished product will be showcased at the competition Sept. 5.
The crash course will conclude at about 9 p.m. Pre-registration for participants is recommended because space is limited. For more information or to register, call (541) 473-3470.
THE FILMMAKERS COMPETITION
Entering a film in the Drexel H. Foundation’s annual filmmakers competition at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5 is free. The deadline for free entry of films is Monday. Films must be family appropriate, rated G to PG.
There are four age categories — 4 to 11, 12 to 14, 15 to 19 and 20 and older — with first-place winners in each category winning a $50 savings bond and the best overall film winning a $100 savings bond. Films must be in DVD format, or on mini-dv tape, and be no shorter than 30 seconds and no longer than 15 minutes. One need not be present to win.
To enter, mail or drop off submitted films and registrations at 301 A St., Vale, OR 97918. For registration sheets for the crash course or competition, look at the Vale pool, Vale library, the Rex Theater and Fuson Law Office, or call and leave a message at (541) 473-3470. The cost to attend the film festival is $5, but filmmakers get in for free.
All proceeds go to support the foundation’s programs and events, such as the Teen Film Project, the Formal Closet and Prom Dress Giveaway Project and Art in the Park on Flag Day. For more information, call (541) 473-3470.
