Glen “Fuj” Fujinaga, 56, of Coos Bay, formerly of Ontario, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, in Coos Bay. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, at the “Idaho-Oregon Buddhist Temple” in Ontario, Ore. Inurnment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Ontario.

Glen was born July 26, 1952, in Ontario, the son of Sakae and Akiko (Takasugi) Fujinaga. Upon graduation from Ontario High School in 1970, he attended Treasure Valley Community College and graduated from Oregon College of Education with a degree in teaching. Glen moved to Coos Bay in 1975, where he spent the majority of his entire teaching career at Madison Elementary School. Throughout his 30 years of teaching, he was known as a tough but fair teacher, always challenging his students to do better. He was a devoted teacher, often spending his free time helping the local kids focus their energy on more productive activities. He will forever be remembered for the positive impact he had on many lives of his former students, several of whom remained his close friends throughout their adult lives. Glen retired from teaching in 2006 but remained active in the education of children, opting to spend the majority of his free time substitute teaching. He is survived by his mother, Aki Fujinaga, of Ontario; two sisters, Jean Miyasako, and husband, Kevin, of Homedale, Idaho, and Susan Fujinaga, of Eagle, Idaho; two brothers, Wayne Fujinaga, of Ontario, and Jon Fujinaga, of Eagle, Idaho; four nieces, Erica Miyasako, KC Miyasako, Allison Fujinaga and Jessica Fujinaga; and nephew, Kyle Miyasako. He was preceded in death by his father.
