Leonard Delbert Owens Jr.
Aug. 7, 1932 - July 8, 2009

Leonard Delbert Owens Jr., age 76, of Payette, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Burial services with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Payette. Condolences may be made to the family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com.

Leonard was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Graton, Calif., to Leonard D. Owens Sr. and Elma (Keene) Owens. He grew up in the Sierra foothills and attended schools in Greenwood and Auburn, Calif. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served from 1951 to 1955 with most of that time spent in Korea. He married his sweetheart, Darls Ann Craine, on June 19, 1955. To this union were born four children.

Through the years, he worked several jobs in the woods falling timber, as a tire repair man and for the Payette County Gopher and Weed Control.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Darls Ann; sons, Ronald (Julie) Owens, of Soda Springs, Idaho, and Leonard “Buddy” Owens, of Payette; daughters, Roberta (Scotty) Cockeram, of Ontario, and Ramona Harris, of Payette; a sister, Jane Parthun, of New Castle, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

His parents; one brother, Donald E. Owens; great-granddaughters, Alexis Grace Owens and Scarlett Hope Owens, preceded him in death.
