Don Albert Dumas, of Ontario, Ore. ” a mighty and noble man, Don Albert Dumas returned to his Heavenly Father on Monday, July 6, 2009, at the age of 78. Don was born on March 18, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Herbert Herald Dumas and Lovina Comfort Peart. Don was the fifth of 12 children. During Don’s life, he held many jobs. He enjoyed driving l8-wheelers, which he did for many years. He also worked for 20 years for the state of Oregon Highway Department on the bridge crew. This was a job that he thoroughly loved and enjoyed. For the last 25 years, he has worked as a driver for Peterson Farms every fall during the harvest. He looked forward to this every year. Don was also a skilled craftsman and demonstrated that skill by making things from wood. He made numerous children happy with the children’s tables that he made and painted with cartoon characters. Don was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During his life, he held many positions of leadership, including serving in three bishoprics. He was also a stake high councilman in the Ontario Stake for 91⁄2 years. Don also worked in the Boise Idaho Temple as a temple worker for five years. For those who knew Don know that Don never knew a stranger and always had a smile on his face. He had a gentle manner about him and was loved by all who knew him. Don will be missed by everyone that knew him.
Don is survived by his bride of 40 years, Audrey. He is also survived by six sons, Donnie, John, Ronnie, Lonnie, Shayne and Nik. He is also survived by three daughters, Connie, Bonnie and Wendy.
Don is also survived by brothers, Jay, Dell and Ray, as well as sisters, Bly, Mary and Reva. Don also leaves behind 34 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at the Ontario Lienkaemper Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Ontario Ward Building at 661 S.W. 12th St. in Ontario. Burial will follow at Owyhee Cemetery.
