ONTARIO — After 25 years on the job, a former Oregon State Police officer decided a retirement party wasn’t as important as helping another local family with a child battling cancer.
Phillip Grove, Ontario, donated $1,200 to the family of Brenna Vogt, a 7-year-old from Ontario who has leukemia, June 25.
“In lieu of a retirement gathering, myself and my family chose to have people make donations to Brenna Vogt on my behalf,” Grove said.
Grove, who worked in the Fish and Game Division, knew the Vogts when they were his children’s youth ministers at the Nazarene church in Ontario, he said.
“They were pretty instrumental in our kids’ lives,” Grove said. “I’d just like to thank all the very caring, generous people out there that donated money to Brenna on our behalf.”
