| Gabiola goes yard for Yano’s Field of Dreams |
Field of Dreams slugger Paige Gabiola digs in the batter’s box moments before hitting a game-winning, two-run home run in this submitted photo. The U-18 Field of Dreams, coached by Craig Yano, Dave Dwyer and Rod Hutchinson, took second at the Diamond Bandit Tournament last weekend, May 29 through May 31.
The team held the No. 1 seed in the tournament after a scoreless tie against the NW Athletics from Spokane and a 5-1 win against Team Altitude from Utah.
They were forced into the loser’s bracket with a 2-0 loss against the NW Athletics, then faced David Hopper’s U-18 Field of Dreams team, winning by a 4-2 score. In that game, Gabiola, from Payette High School, launched the game-winning, two-run home run. After that win, the Dreams faced the NW Athletics again and walked away with a 9-2 victory, which placed them in the championship game. After back-to-back wins, the Dreams lost the championship to the Utah Attitude by a 9-4 margin.
Yano’s Dreams are off this weekend and will play in the Aloha Invitational Tournament on June 13 and June 14 in Beaverton. The following week, they travel to Beaverton again for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Recruiting Camp/Valley Invitational Tournament June 19 through June 21.
