FRCC Basque exhibit on display through Monday
ONTARIO ” “Amerikanuak! Basques in the High Desert” will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, through Monday, at Four Rivers Cultural Center, 676 S.W. Fifth Ave., Ontario. The exhibit includes a collection of photographs and displays of various tools, clothing and other items depicting the Basque heritage. A $3 fee will be charged to patrons to help offset the expense of acquiring the exhibit, but people should not be discouraged by the cost, as the museum will usually accept any affordable donation. SHRC to sponsor historic presentation
WEISER ” The Snake River Heritage Center will present “Civilian Conservation Corps in the Boise National Forest,” as part of the celebration of May as Historic Preservation Month in Idaho, at 7 p.m. Thursday in Hooker Hall on Paddock Lane in Weiser. Susie Osgood, Boise National Forest, will relate the historic importance of the CCC in our area, a legacy in which nearly 30,000 Idaho young men participated, building roads, bridges, towers, campgrounds and more, working to protect forests and fish and game among other conservation activities.
‘Hangar sale’ scheduled
PAYETTE ” The Payette Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2738 and Ladies Auxiliary will hold a large, one-day “hangar sale” at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Payette Airport hangar, near the golf course in Payette. Tax-deductible receipts will be available, and all unsold merchandise will be given to local charitable organizations. Food, beverages and door prizes will be available. Free Shriners screening clinic planned
WEISER ” Shriners Hospitals for Children will hold a free screening clinic to children up to 18 years old who can benefit from orthopedic and burn/scar care from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Weiser Memorial Hospital, 645 E. Fifth St., Weiser. The Portland Shriners Hospital provides free expert care for cerebral palsy, spina bifida, scoliosis (curvature of the spine), hip disorders, hand or foot disorders, club foot, skeletal growth abnormalities, cleft lip/palate, burn scars and problems with bones, joints or muscles. Malheur City Cemetery decoration, potluck slated
MALHEUR CITY ” The annual decoration and potluck will be held Sunday at the cemetery north of Malheur Reservoir. The potluck will begin at 1 p.m. MDT. Senior pool tournament coming up
PAYETTE ” The 39th annual Payette Senior Citizens Straight Shooters Billiard Tournament was held April 29. The winners were Tom Sorensen, New Plymouth, Earl Ford, Payette, and Ed Laughlin, Fruitland, respectively. The next tournament will be held at 9 a.m. May 27 at the Payette Senior Center, 137 N. Main St., Payette. A meal will be served at noon for a $4 donation.
TVCC Theatre Arts to present ‘Once Upon a Mattress’
ONTARIO ” “Once Upon a Mattress,” by Mary Rodgers with lyrics by Marshall Barer, based on a book by Thompson, Fuller and Barer, is a comedic musical based on Anderson’s “The Princess and the Pea.” Under the direction of Treasure Valley Community College Director of Theatre Studies Katie Bennett, with music directed by Joel Williams, this comedy will be on stage at 7:30 p.m. May 27 through May 30 and at 2 p.m. May 30 and May 31 at the Meyer-McLean Theatre, campus entrance, 676 S.W. ‘Art & Spirits Festival’ on tap
ONTARIO ” St. Peter Catholic School will host its sixth annual “Art & Spirits Festival” from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. May 30 at the Ontario Golf Course, 1345 Golf Course Road, Ontario. Tickets are $40, which includes food, spirit tasting and music performed by Steve Eaton. A silent auction will also take place at the event, which benefits the school. The fifth annual Celebrity Golf Classic will begin at 9 a.m. May 31 at the course. The cost is $300 per team, or $75 per person, which includes a barbecue lunch, refreshments, cart rental, green fees and a “goodie bag.” Again, proceeds benefit the school. Weiser River Trail bike rides planned
WEISER ” The third annual Weiser River Trail bike rides will begin between 7 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. May 30 on the Weiser River Trail, an 84-mile, unpaved railroad grade converted to a trail for hikers, bikers and horseback riders. The trail follows the Weiser River from Rubicon (just south of New Meadows) to Weiser. Friends of the Weiser River Trail (FWRT) is offering three fun bike rides: a 45-mile ride through the high desert southern half of the trail, and two rides on the northern, forested part. Riders will receive a shuttle to the start, lunch, a T-shirt and an all-downhill ride.
Wide-tired mountain bikes are a must as the trail is dirt, gravel and sand and can be rough. Helmets are mandatory. ‘Flea Market for Family Literacy’ slated

Run for Rose poker run set
PAYETTE ” Bikers Against Domestic Violence will host the first Run for Rose poker run June 6, beginning with registration from 10 a.m. to noon at V-Twin Club, 26 N. Main St., Payette. All proceeds go to the building fund for the Rose Advocates’ Maple Tree House Shelter, which will provide long-term housing and assistance to people suffering from domestic violence. Fireworks fundraiser coming up
ONTARIO ” S.E.A.S.O.N. Youth Program will sell fireworks June 26 through July 6 outside the drop-in center, 380 S.W. First Ave., Ontario. Parma Art Show scheduled
PARMA ” The Parma Art Guild will sponsor an art exhibit during the upcoming Old Fort Boise Days celebration in Parma from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 13 at the Community Center, situated on Bates Avenue between Third and Fourth in Parma. The show is open to all artists. School children are invited to exhibit their work during the show at no cost. Non-guild submitters may bring up to three exhibits for a fee of $2 per painting or three for $5. Guild members will accept and hang art for display from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 12. Artwork must be delivered dry, and framed or matted, with wire ready to hang. The artwork will be judged at about 2 p.m. June 12 and will be critiqued after the ribbons are awarded.
