Ontario softball swept, Fruitland blasts McCall

Milton-Freewater-The Ontario softball team suffered a major setback in its quest for Greater Oregon League supremamcy, as it was swept by Mac-Hi in doubleheader, losing the opener, 3-2, and the nightcap, 3-1 Friday in Milton-Freewater.
Of the six total runs scored by the Pionners, only one was earned, as the Tigers made several mistakes on the field. Ontario had its chances in the game, but left several runners on base.
Hopper said his team needs to regroup.
“We have to make some adjustments,” Hopper said. “I believe in these girls. It’s going to click and we’re hoping it will click at the right time.”
Ontario (6-5 overall, 0-4 league) hosts Nampa at 5 p.m. Monday.

Jandee Carlson and Jarica Martarano each slammed a pair of home runs and drove in five runs apiece, in the Lady Grizzlies’ 22-4 trouncing of McCall-Donnelly Friday in Snake River Valley Conference softball action in New Meadows.
Fruitland opened up a 2-0 lead with six runs in the top of the second.
In the second, Carlson stroked a grand slam, and in the third, the Grizzlies added 10 more runs, aided by a grand slam by Martarano.
Cheyenne Barger went 4-for-4 with a home run, with four RBIs and four runs scored, and Shelby Zamora added three hits, including a homer, to go along with five RBIs and three runs scored.
Fruitland (17-2 overall, 6-0 league) hosts La Grande at 3 p.m. Monday.
