WEISER—In non-league action, the Lady Wolverines scratched out six runs on five hits against the Nyssa Bulldogs Monday night in a 6-5 non-league win in Weiser.
On the mound for Weiser was senior Ashley Johnson, who pitched three solid innings, allowing one run in the first inning and striking out four, before struggling in the fourth inning.
In the fourth, Johnson hit one and walked two other Bulldog batters to load the bases.
A passed ball, followed by an error scored two runs, before Nyssa's Shelley Vielma stepped up to the plate and hit a double scoring two more runs to draw Nyssa closer.
Weiser’s relief hurler, Angie Edwards, stepped in in the fifth inning to seal the win by allowing one hit, no walks and no runs.
Weiser scored two runs in the second inning to take the lead for a couple of innings, before the Wolverines took advantage of a couple walks combined with a double by Cassandra Hinton, who went 2-for-3 on the night, to tack on four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Weiser held on to the lead to win the game.
Weiser takes on Snake River Valley rival, the Fruitland Grizzlies at 5 p.m. at home today.

NAMPA
Paige Gabiola drove in four runs, Melissa Blackwell struck out nine and the rest is history as the Payette Lady Pirates had their way with Columbia Monday in a non-conference tilt in Nampa with an 11-1 blowout win.
Columbia scored first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but then it was all Payette as they plated two runs in the second inning, one in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and the final two in the seventh.
The Lady Pirates pounded out 22 hits in the win, while Blackwell scattered five hits over the seven inning game.
Eight of the nine Payette hitters logged a multi-hit game, and the one that did not, drew a walk and had a sacrifice.
“It was a great game,” Payette head coach Duane Higley said in an email to the Argus. “We finally put a complete game together. Great D (defense), great O (offense) and great pitching.”
Payette travels to Vale at 5 p.m. today.
