Weiser—The Wolverines pounded out 12 hits as Gavin Eisenbarth struck out six to lead Weiser to the 12-2 mercy-rule win over McCall in a Snake River Valley Conference game Tuesday.
Weiser scored its first two runs of the game in the home half of the first inning, added another run in the bottom of the third and enjoyed an early 3-0 lead.
McCall answered the call in the top of the fourth inning, scoring two runs, but that would be all the Weiser pitchers and defense would allow.
The Wolverines added their fourth run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning to go up 4-2. Then in Weiser’s at-bat in the fifth, the flood gates opened, and the Wolverines plated eight runs to end the game.
“I think they’re starting to believe,” Weiser head coach Todd Zucker said. “We got off to a slow start overall. With the exception of a botched double play, the kids played a solid game.”
Leading the Wolverines at the plate were Eisenbarth, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Bowers was 2-for-3 and scored twice, Winegar also finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs.
Weiser (4-10 overall, 2-2 SRV) will be in action again at 5 p.m. today when it travels to Vale for a non-conference match up with the Vikings.
Adrian 10, Horseshoe Bend 2
In Adrian, Jake Warren went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored, and pitchers Blake Purnell and Jose Arreola combined on a four-hitter with a total of 15 strikeouts to lead Adrian to its first win of the season, a 10-2 victory over Horseshoe Bend in non-league baseball action Tuesday in Adrian.
The Antelopes scored in every inning except the second and, at one point, led 7-0 until the top of the fifth inning when Horseshoe Bend put two runs on the board to draw to within 7-2.
Adrian added two runs in the bottom of the fifth and scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth for the final tally.
Adrian rattled off seven hits, and Warren was supported by Jeremy Price, who went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs.
