PAYETTE—The Payette Police Department arrested a 17-year-old male Thursday night following an altercation with his girlfriend where he apparently dragged her with his car quite a distance while she held on.
Payette Police Chief Mark Clark said the incident began when police responded to a residence in the 100 block of Emma Street in Payette following a fight between two teenagers in the driveway of the house.
He said the teenagers, both 17, engaged in a verbal altercation in front of the girlfriend’s house, and when the boyfriend attempted to drive away, the girl, who was standing outside of the car, reached in and tried to stop the male.
At some point, the girl’s mother came out and tried to get her daughter to come inside the house, but shortly after, the teenage boy put the car into gear and backed out, with his girlfriend still hanging on. Clark said the teenage girl was dragged about 98 feet down the road before she fell from the car and was partially run over.
“The suspect fled the scene and left her lying on the road,” Clark said.
The girl suffered serious abrasions on both arms and legs and another injury to her leg from being run over in the incident, Clark said, and was transported to the hospital by paramedics.
The teenage boy was found at his residence by police at about 11 p.m. after hiding the car. He was subsequently interviewed and taken into custody on charges of reckless driving and leaving the scene of an injury accident, which is a felony. He was transported to the juvenile detention center in Caldwell and held on those charges, Clark said.
