With the weather getting better, some of the events around the valley are moving outside. I tell you I’m glad to see spring is finally here! This year is the first winter that I can remember not getting away for either a business trip to Phoenix or the Oregon coast for five days of golf at Bandon Dunes. It just wasn’t in the cards this year. Maybe next year. Anyway, there’s plenty to do around these parts in the next few weeks. Here are just a few.
Today and April 3 will be the Knights of Columbus fish fry. It starts at 5:30 pm, and it’s at the Ontario Armory. You can get more information by calling Dave Steifvater at (541) 881-6491.
On the very next evening, April 4, the Treasure Valley Christian School will hold a Potato Dinner and Auction. Dinner starts at 5 p.m., and the live auction at 7 p.m.
Contact Crystal at (541) 889-4662 for more details.
Ontario High School will have an Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. April 11.
This weekend is the third Round of the NCAA Tournament. I’m sure most of you have your picks in the brackets. This year, I promised myself that I wouldn’t pick with my heart. When my favorite team, which happens to be Arizona, somehow got in the tournament, I did think that they could win the opener against Utah, but that’s where I thought they would be eliminated by Wake Forest. The long and short of it is Arizona has played itself into the regionals in Indianapolis, tonight. They’re playing Louisville, who is the favorite, I’m sure.
Anyway, it figures that I would bet with my head and not with my heart the year they make it this far. I’ll still enjoy the games no matter what happens.
The championship game will be played April 6 in Detroit. It’ll have to go some to top a lot of the games that have been played up to the final. It’s one of the best tournaments any sport plays. I think it’s because one loss and you’re out.
Speaking of being out? The Argus Observer announced this week the last Monday edition will print March 30. The Argus Observer will continue to publish Tuesday through Friday, and Sunday mornings. Breaking news stories will still be updated on our web site, www.argusobserver.com. I want to personally thank our readers and advertisers for your support. Everyone we spoke to understood what we needed to do and why. That includes our contract delivery drivers and our staff.
Have a great weekend, and keep it in play.
