Hunter education classes offered in Vale
Vale
Registration for hunters education classes will begin Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Malheur Education Service District office situated at 363 A St. West in Vale.
The instructors for the hunter education classes are Don Hodge and Topper Schlupe. The classes will begin March 2 and run through March 18. The cost to attend the course is $10 per student. For more information contact Don Hodges, at (541) 473-3575, or Topper Schlupe, at (541) 473-2411.
OPRD holding soccer
registrations

The Ontario Parks and Recreation Department announces youth soccer registrations through Feb. 27. The fee is $34 per child.
The soccer league is a six-week program with the first practices starting the week after spring break.
All games are played in Ontario. Children, ages 3 through 14 years old, are eligible to play.
Children from communities outside of Ontario are welcome.

JR. NBA/JR. WNBA Skills Challenge slated

Ontario Parks and Recreation Department will host a free JR. NBA/JR. WNBA Skills Challenge for area youth at 9 a.m. Feb. 21 at Ontario Middle School’s old gym. Participants may register the day of the event and must bring a copy of their birth certificate and complete a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.
Local youths between the ages of 9 and 14 years old have a free opportunity to showcase their excellence in the core basketball skills of shooting, dribbling and passing. The Skills Challenge is also intended to encourage youth participation in sports while promoting sportsmanship.
Champions from this local competition will have the opportunity to advance to one of 35 regional competitions occurring across the country in hopes of advancing to the National Finals in Orlando, Fla.

Adult coed volleyball
registration underway

The Ontario Parks and Recreation Department is now taking registration for adult coed volleyball. The fee is $175 per team and includes at least a six-game schedule and an end-of-season tournament.
Teams need to have a minimum of three men and three women. The adult coed volleyball will start the week of March 9.
Registration ends Feb. 27.

Trips to Brundage Mountain

The Ontario Parks and Recreation Department is still offering the ski/snowboard trips to Brundage Mountain. Trips will began the first Saturday in December and will run each Saturday through the end of February depending on snow conditions. Cost per trip is $15 and participants will also have to purchase their lift ticket, and they will receive a discount if they ride the bus.
