Furniture store opens in Ontario
Merchant sets up shop in former Central Rent to Own store

Brian Lemons, general manager of the new Aaron’s in Ontario, looks over some of the furniture in the store. The store sells or leases furniture, appliances and electronics.
ONTARIO — Aaron’s is a new furniture store in Ontario offering customers the opportunity to buy items on a lease-purchase arrangement while promising low prices on its inventory of furniture, appliances and electronics.

It is situated at 490 E. Lane.

General Manager Brian Lemons said the store opened in January, taking over the Central Rent to Own store, and is part of a franchise of a business which was started in Atlanta in 1955. The franchise, called Tur, Inc., has 14 stores in Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado and now is one in  Eastern Oregon. There are also outlets in Nampa and Caldwell.

“We’re more focused on customer ownership,” Lemons said, explaining the difference between his store and a rent-to-own operation.

“We offer competitive prices,” he said, adding shoppers can choose to purchase the clearly priced items outright.

Lemons came to Aaron’s after being a vice president of a boarding school for 10 years, after hearing about it from a friend.

“I liked the mission and service model. It made sense to me,”  he said.

Customers can pay off their purchases in as little as 12 months. If a customer loses his/her job and cannot make payment, Aarons will take the item back, Lemons said. But when the person is able to make payments again, the store will put them back on the same payment plan as before if they want.

Service at Aaron’s also means a customer is given a replacement TV or appliance while theirs is getting repaired.

“We always carry brand name products,” Lemons said.

Ontario was chosen for the store’s location because it is in a central location among several towns in the Treasure Valley, and Lemons said he believes the store will grow and do well.

" Anything you have to go out of town for, you don't really need. I'm guessing that exceptions to this rule will be very specific, related to name brands or specific hard-to-find sizes.
Name it. "

" You're right. This did happen during the great George Bush dinesty. Of course, things were great until the democrats took over the house and senate. THATS when the wheels fell off. And you're also right about bailing out. As history always repeats itself, the republicans will soon take over the house and senate. Then this thing will get fixed and the democrat in office will take the credit. We don't mind. "

" It's not like Kmart is headquartered in Ontario. Or McDonalds. Local or based on a moon of Jupiter these businesses pay property taxes into our coffers...somebody pays our bills. While business may not be guaranteed to survive whether thimes are hard or not them make this city do what you may want it to do.

Having said that, it's really silly to believe you will get everything you can possibly use from within the city limits.

THEY DON'T, obviously. So work the local thing, and if you need to get an iten in Canyon County then fill up in town before going. That is a practical solution for all of us. "

" This is a franchise replacing a franchise. That's a good thing. Especially if Aaron's is a more reputable franchise. However, I would still give the local independent merchant the first chance. The rule in our house is: Local independent, first. Local chain store, second. Internet shopping, when required. Out of town shopping, never. It's amazing how well we get by. "

" To: if you can't... Are you forgetting Mr. Bush? there's blame to go around. we're taking the hit for CEOs, banks, prime rates, unscrupulous realtors, oil barons etc.etc. All this happened during the great George Bush Dinesty. So, Obama and the rest of america is taking the hit now. Many of us are used to cleaning out the s&*t after the fat cats you know, the ones who didn't pay taxes. I guess we can do it again. After all I was there when we bailed out Niel Bush's failed SNL. Here we go again, the rich get richer...... "
