Buhl — New Plymouth’s Sylas Gaskins was a man on a mission at the Buhl Wrestling Invite Saturday. Gaskins faced four opponents and dispatched them all in the same manner, with a pin.
In Gaskins’ first bout, he faced Glenns Ferry’s Javier Ortiz and Gaskins pinned him in three minutes and eighteen seconds. Next came Declo’s Able Delgado who only lasted 1:08 with Gaskin’s. In the semifinal round, Shelley’s Anthony Weeks took his shot at the heavyweight from New Plymouth, but he too fell victim in 3:30.
Finally in the championship match, Gaskins squared off against Andrew Nash of Spring Creek, Nev., who, like Gaskins reached the finals by pinning all of his opponents as well.
The two burly competitors grappled through the first two periods and Gaskins held a slim 1-0 lead. Then in the final period, Gaskins imposed his will on Nash and applied the pin at the 5:58 mark.
Other notables for New Plymouth were Kyle King, Corban Hoch and Dillon Harris all who were one match shy of earning a medal for the Pilgrims. King finished the event with three wins and two losses, Hock went 2-2 and Harris was 3-2.
