Bailouts destroy responsibility

Editor,

Who cannot see the perversity of our national government spending trillions of dollars to destroy personal and collective responsibility?

Repeatedly ransoming communities from massive hurricanes, flood and fire damage. Rescuing banks and other financial institutions from their government-inspired irresponsibility. Shoring up the government-sponsored enterprise Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac so they can continue to bundle up mortgages into arcane, failure-disguising investment vehicles understood by no one.

Congressional insistence is Big Three auto companies have been failing for decades and are suddenly in need of a “bailout” because their laid off employees could never find jobs at the several successful domestic companies which would presumably cease to sell autos in the U.S.A. and around the world.

Rescuing mortagees who bought properties they must have known they could not afford in good times on the foolish assumption there would be no bad times.

All this at an ultimate cost to responsible individuals and enterprises, but especially to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Merry Christmas.

Election didn’t change America’s direction

Editor,

President James Madison, father of the Constitution, stated people never give up their freedom except under some delusion. The delusion is voting for liberal, socialist Democrats for president and Congress will reverse the socialist policies of Republican leadership, which has given us a government larger, costlier and more intrusive.

We have jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire of even more socialism with higher taxes, energy rationing, amnesty for aliens, higher unemployment, unscientific-based carbon taxes, more gun control and less freedom. Historically, socialism has always resulted in slavery and the loss of freedom.

The sub-prime loan financial meltdown was caused mostly by Democratic policies that forced banks to make loans to unqualified people. Where is the punishment for Rep. Frank and Sen. Dodd and others who prevented over-site to prevent this disaster?

We now have elected the same Democratic people who caused the problem to fix it! They will bailout their friends with trillions of dollars for which we will pay in higher taxes and inflation.

Our elected federal officials take an oath to uphold the U.S. constitution. President Teddy Roosevelt said we should support the president only as far as he upholds the Constitution, which limits government not the people.

To restore freedom and personal liberty, we must return to limited government under the Constitution, a balanced budget, sound money, a strong defense, no undeclared wars and no policing the world. Join www.jbs.org and www.campaignforliberty.com to restore a free nation.

Commenting on the ‘cat

trapping fiasco’

Editor,

This is in reference to the article in Associated Press, written by the “Blue Mountain Eagle” in John Day, Ore. I am not attempting to defend myself in the “cat trapping” fiasco made so infamous by the Blue Mountain Eagle, as it appears a huge majority of people in this county believe what they read to be the gospel.

There are two sides to every story, and, now, with the Blue Mountain Eagle involved, there are three. I do feel the need to say I think it is pretty pathetic this newspaper feels it needs to give more exposure and even an editorial about this stupid cat trapping fiasco than it did to the homicide last August and to the well poisoning incident earlier last year.

Maybe the words are too big in the more serious and important cases and the writers can’t find the strength or gumption to pick up a dictionary or thesaurus.

What actually transpired and what was written in the Eagle is a little different to say the least. You have to admit, the drama was there. I think we have future soap opera writer in our very own county!
