Brundage Mountain to open Saturday

McCall—Brundage Mountain Resort is pleased to announce it will open for winter operations on Saturday.

Lifts will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and all mountain services will be available.

Storms this past weekend brought the resort 28 inches of light, fluffy powder. It’s taken several days to pack that snow into a suitable base. Now, the forecast is calling for another 8 inches to 15 inches of snow between Wednesday night and Thursday night.

“We are thrilled that the winter weather arrived just in time for us to open our slopes for the winter holiday period,” said resort spokesperson April Russell. “We think Thursday’s storm will give us that icing on the cake that we’ve been waiting for.”

Brundage Mountain’s base measures about 18 inches at the 6,000-foot level.

A snow report is availabel at http://www.brundage.com/the-mountain/snow-report/.

Early season conditions are expected, and visitors are asked to pay close attention to signage on the slopes.

“Last season, we were skiing deep powder in the trees all the way in to the month of May,” said Russell. “We want to remind people that the conditions off-trail are extremely variable right now, so they should use caution or stick to the groomed runs.”

This year’s opener will go down in the books as one of Brundage Mountain’s latest opening days. The resort has opened after Dec. 20 only twice in its 47-year history, during the 1989-1990 season and the 1976-1977 season.

“We are really excited to be able to put our seasonal employees to work and our local economy is really in need of the boost that ski season brings,” Russell said.
