Bulldog wrestlers improve to 2-0

Nyssa—The Nyssa Bulldogs hosted Homedale and Parma Tuesday in a grappling duel and came away with a clean sweep. Nyssa defeated Homedale 57-21 and Parma 49-25.

Against Homedale, Nyssa picked up wins in 11 of the of the 14 weight classes. The Bulldogs recorded three pins. Mario Gonzales (130 pounds) pinned Chris Bueno in 3:18, John Iverson (145 pounds) pinned Danny Zinener in 2:45 and Travis Hickman (285 pounds) pinned Wes Taggert in 5:00.

Other Bulldog wins came from Tyler Wentz (103 pounds), Rocky Garcia (112 pounds), Nick Conteras (135 pounds) and Robert Deleon (140 pounds), all by forfeit. Winning by points were Ceaser Jacobo (119 pounds), 4-1 over Phillip Moulton, Landen Hartley (125 pounds), 12-1 over Chris Bueno, and Taylor Elazando (171 pounds), 4-3 over Kevin Ables.

In the Bulldogs’ match against Parma, Nyssa won nine of the 14 matches.  The winners include Wentz (forfeit), Garcia (4-1) over Evan Miller, Jacobo (pin 2:54) over Tommy Beckman.

Hartley defeated Anthony Gray by pin in 4:48, while Gonzales defeated Keel Solko with a pin in 57 seconds.

Jamie Benegas won by forfeit for Nyssa in the 135-pound match, and in the 140-pound match, Kyle Schoorl defeated David Hemmert 12-3. Iverson knocked off Greg Ferguson with a pin in 1:05, and Alex Cisneros defeated Cody Danes in the 152-pound bout by pin in 1:55.

Brian Moore lost to Jed Ferguson in the 160-pound matchup 12-0, and Nyssa’s Elazando was pinned by Parma’s Lance Johnson in the 189-pound bout in 1:42.

At the 215-pound matchup, Nyssa forfeited to Randy Riley, and, in the heavyweights, it was Hickman pinning Angel Hernandez in 5:47. Nyssa improved to 2-0 in duels and will hit the road for a weekend duel at Mt. View High School.
