ROSEBURG (AP) — A Roseburg man died when his plane crashed shortly after takeoff in Texas.
George Anthony ‘‘Tony’’ Kuhn, 66, had been flying solo from Hondo, Texas, to Arizona on Sunday when he reportedly encountered a mechanical problem.
Kuhn’s stepson, Sean Smith, told the News-Review newspaper in an e-mail that Kuhn told an air traffic controller that the autopilot controls of the Beechcraft King Air 90 twin turboprop had failed and he was having trouble controlling the plane.
The plane, owned by Western Wings Corp. of Roseburg, crashed about 30 miles west of Rocksprings, Texas, said Roland Herwig, a spokesman for the Southwestern Region office of the Federal Aviation Administration.
