Kayla Mitchell earned NSCAA/adidas All-Central Region honors for the Colorado School of Mines women’s soccer team as announced Thursday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). MItchell’s teammates Kelsey Lang, and Liz Oba were named to the second ream. Brianna Schulze garnered third team accolades.
Mitchell, a 5’3” junior forward from Ontario, Ore. (Ontario High School), started all 21 matches for CSM and finished the season tied for second in the RMAC in goals (22), third in points (47) and tied for third in game-winning goals (6). Mitchell earned First Team Daktronics All-Central Region and All-RMAC honors and was named Offensive Player of the Week twice this season. For her efforts in the classroom, Mitchell was named the 2008 Women’s Soccer Academic Player of the Year and was a unanimous First Team Academic All-RMAC selection.
The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team earned its first bid in program history to the NCAA Division II NCAA Tournament. CSM made its second consecutive appearance in the RMAC Tournament in just the third season as a member of the RMAC. The Orediggers (12-6-3) tied the single-season record for wins and broke team records for goals in a season (45) and goal per game in a season (2.14).
