Jordan Valley blows out Tri-Valley

JORDAN VALLEY—Coming in after a 66-41 victory over Notus, where Zac Fillmore scored 24 points and Alek Quintero chipped 17 points, Koehl Trautman scored 21 points, grabbed 10 boards and blocked seven shots to lead Jordan Valley to a 92-49 blowout win over Tri-Valley Saturday in Jordan Valley.

The Mustangs dominated every statistical category and outscored the Titans in every quarter of play. Jordan Valley hit on 39 field goals, had 11 players hit the scoresheet and outrebounded Tri-Valley by a 42-22 margin.

 “I think we jumped on Tri-Valley pretty quick,” Jordan Valley head coach Mike Workman said. “I think we shocked them and intimidated them inside.”

Jordan Valley (3-0 overall) hosts Huntington Tuesday.

Harper 62, Huntington 26

HUNTINGTON

Ron Weatherby scored 26 points and 12 boards and Josh Mitchell added a double-double of his own with 14 points and 22 rebounds to lead Harper to a 62-26 drubbing of Huntington Saturday in High Desert League boys basketball action in Huntington.

The Hornets came out swinging early and often opening up a 32-15 halftime lead with a 31-11 second half run.

Steve Casiano scored 12 points, eight assists and six steals and teammate Dustyne Hicks added three points for Harper, which tallied 24 field goals and went 12-of-23 from the free throw line.

Huntington could only muster 11 field goals in the game and had four players kick in more than one field goal.

 “We played really well today,” Harper head coach Tyler Shafer said. “Steven played good in a new position at the guard. He was working well in all facets, so that was pretty nice.”

Harper (1-1 overall) travels to Burnt River Tuesday.

Girls Basketball

Harper 24, Huntington 21

Huntington

Frankie Casiano scored eight points and Jackie Jordan added six points, 11 rebounds and three steals to lead the Harper girls basketball team to a 24-21 victory over Huntington Saturday in Huntington.

In what turned out to be a slugfest, the Hornets kicked off the first half with a slim, 13-12 advantage and outscored the Locomotives 11 -9 in the second half.

Fro Huntington, Tanya Broam scored six points and Haylee Harding added three points for Huntington, which slammed down nine field goals and went 2-for-4 from the free throw line.

“It was close game throughout,” Harper girls basketball coach Tyler Shafer said. “We have a young team and they showed a lot of progress today, so that was nice to see.”

Harper (1-1 overall) travels to Burnt River Tuesday.
