Chukar athletes earn end of season awards

Ontario—Awards were handed out to 10 Treasure Valley Community College athletes participating in soccer and volleyball recently.
On the pitch, TVCC women’s soccer freshman, Chelsey Thayn, picked up all-star recognition for her goal-scoring tear she went on in the 2008 season. Thayn, out of Emmett High School, scored a team-leading 19 goals and notched five assists.
On the men’s side, Alan Bosio, out of Caldwell, scored 14 goals and added eight assists for the Chukars. Bosio also received the East Region’s Most Valuable Player award, the first in either soccer teams’ history.
Bosio and Thayn will be playing in league all-star games Saturday, Dec. 6th in Camas, Wash.
Rachael Collins, Sara Bates and Heather Kopecky picked up all-region awards for the women, and for the men, Gabe Davis, Solin Garcia and Luis Gutierrez received all-region recognition.
On the hardwood, TVCC netters Vanessa Gomez and Tara O’Connor were recognized for their solid play for the playoff-qualifying TVCC squad. Gomez, a sophomore out of Ontario High School was picked for the first team, as she led the team with 302 kills and 363 digs. O’Connor, also out of Ontario, received second team honors. The sophomore was fourth on the team with 192 kills and boasted a 24 percent hitting percentage for the Chukars. O’Connor tallied 34 assists, 83 digs and a team-leading 69 blocks in her final season wearing the orange and blue.
