BEND (AP) — A judge has convicted a former Redmond police officer of assault and harassment in a 2006 traffic stop.
Judge Stephen Forte is to schedule sentencing on Monday. The verdict was rendered Friday.
The former officer, Robert Stratton, faces a maximum of five years in prison and fines of up to $125,000.
Stratton, a 25-year police officer, was off duty and in an unmarked car at the time.
Bradley Thompson testified that Stratton pulled him over, choked him and punched him several times in the mouth.
Stratton testified that he was trying to warn Thompson about tapping his brakes in heavy traffic, but the motorist grabbed his shirt and tried to pull him into the car.
