Council—Injuries have plagued the Council Lumberjacks over the past couple of games, and Saturday, another Lumberjack fell victim to an already depleted team.
Steven Lucas was filling in for an injured Kaine Kamerdula and early in the game Lucas was injured forcing Council head coach to go with a younger inexperienced player to fill in.
“The injuries sure hurt, but it was not the reason we lost this game,” Shumway said. “We lost because of turnovers and not making plays when we had to.”
Council had an interception returned for a score in the first quarter, then in the fourth quarter had a fumble returned.
In all, the Lumberjacks committed four turnovers, and Shumway said the two others also picked up big returns for Raft River.
As for the playmaking, the coach said his team had its chances, but could not make the plays when they needed to.
“A couple of times we were in the red-zone and could not punch the ball into the end zone,” Shumway said. “Anything that could go wrong, did.”
Shumway tipped his hat to Raft River saying they are a good team and their quarterback was a tough player.
“I had a good group of athletes this year, and it is sad to see it end this way for those seniors,” Shumway said.
