Eugene—Vale’s Russ Seals caught a 6-yard pass from Bryant Haueter for a touchdown during the second quarter, but it was not enough as Rainier pulled away with a 34-6 win during the first round of the 3A OSAA Championships, Saturday afternoon in Rainier.
“We got some momentum when we scored in the second quarter, we felt we were in good shape at halftime,” Vale head coach Jeff Jacobs said. “I felt they (Rainier) wore us down in the second half.”
The score for the Vikings made it a 14-6 game at the half. Rainier came out in the second half for 20 unanswered points, and the win.
Vale finished with only 151 total yards, with 123 coming via the passing game, all from Haueter. Seals finished with 77 yards receiving, and the Viking offense rushed for 28 yards. Rainier finished with 372 yards on the ground and 400 total yards.
“I don’t think the score indicates how hard we played,” Jacobs said. “It is really hard to put the season into perspective right now. I need a little time to really look at it.”
The loss ends Vale’s season with a mark of 5-5.
