Our Opinion: A new era of results

Today, as the smoke over the latest American election battleground recedes, it is time for Americans to take stock of where we are, where we are going and how to get there.
The next president of the United States, Barack Obama, faces a bewildering array of difficult, nearly insurmountable problems.
The economy is in bad shape. America is spending billions of dollars a day to fight two wars. The nation appears as partisan and divided as it was four years ago. The housing markets have tanked.
Promises during the campaign are one thing. Now it is time for Obama to live up to the lofty expectations raised during the race for president.
Real problems deserve real answers. We need leadership on a host of issues, including the economy — how do we turn it around? — and the war — how soon should we leave Iraq? — instead of another round of proclamations that are often, in the end, meaningless.
The past campaign was a hard-fought one that stretched over a two-year period.
Now we have a new president-elect. Now we should also look toward the future and expect a new era of results instead of more government inaction.
