| Both the Ontario girls and boys soccer teams have qualified for the Oregon state soccer tournament. The girls open with St. Mary’s Tuesday, while the boys will take on the winner of North Marion and Molalla Saturday. |
Ontario — The Ontario High School boys and girls soccer teams head to state riding different streaks.
Ontario’s girls (7-4 overall) finished second in the 4A Special District 7 Conference and enter state action holding a modest, two-game winning streak, after outscoring Umatilla and Mac-Hi by identical 3-0 margins.
The girls will travel to Medford to take on the St. Mary’s Crusaders Tuesday in second-round state soccer action.
The Crusaders (12-2 overall) have won nine of their last 10 games.
St. Mary’s, the Special District 6 champions, have scored 36 goals and have allowed 14.
The Tigers have scored 24 goals and allowed 13 on the season and have shut out their opponents on five different occasions.
If Ontario wins, the Tigers will host a third-round game Nov. 8.
The Ontario boys (6-6-1) started off on a roll early on but hit state action having lost four of their last five games.
The Tigers will face off against the winner of the North Marion and Molalla game on the road, Saturday.
If the Tigers win, they will travel to Brookings-Harbor Tuesday.
On the season, Ontario has scored 28 goals and been held to one goal or less five times. The defense has performed admirably so far and has allowed 26 goals.
