ONTARIO — People out there licking their chops for some boxing do not need to turn to pay-per-view this weekend. Instead, Saturday night, they should simply head to the Ontario Armory for some local boxing action.

The K.O. Rats Boxing Club is putting on the “Rumble at the Armory.” The gates open at 6 p.m.

Boxers from Pocatello to Ontario will compete, with boxers ranging in age from  8 years to 34 years old.

There are 27 scheduled bouts beginning at 7 p.m.

A semi-main event will feature 12-year-old Miranda Burkett, Ontario, taking on Alexa Rodriguez, in a female fight.

That will be followed by the main event: Caldwell’s Merina Ramirez will trade jabs with Jessica Martinez from the Native Gloves Boxing Club out of Fort Hall.

“These are going to be good ones,” K.O. Rats Boxing Club manager Martin Castallanoz said. “We are going to have a lot of top local, amateur fighters on this card.”

Other fighters who will be competing Saturday will be Manuel Mendez, Ontario, Junior Mariscal, Ricky Gallegos , Ben Ferrin and Larry “the Cobra” Lopez, who is a former Youth World Council Champion boxer.

“We are going to have a lot of local talent and a lot of fighters coming out of the Idaho Snake River Boxing Association,” Castallanoz said.

Castallanoz said he decided to try and revive the local boxing scene after returning from Iraq, about six months ago.

“So, I opened up this gym,” he said. “It is something for these kids.”

The event is sanctioned by USA Boxing. The Ontario Armory is situated at 720 N.W. Eighth Ave., Ontario.
