Beaverton man accused of shooting wife in stomach
BEAVERTON (AP) — Police arrested a Beaverton man accused of shooting his wife in the stomach.
Detective Sgt. Jim Shumway said 25-year-old Joshua Ernstrom called 9-1-1 after Sunday’s shooting and remained on the scene until Beaverton officers arrived. Ernstrom has been lodged in the Washington County Jail on charges of assault, attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
Rescue crews aid
injured climber on Mount Hood
PORTLAND (AP) — An Oregon Army National Guard helicopter airlifted an injured climber off Mount Hood.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said the climber suffered arm, leg and head injuries in a 300-foot tumble. A fellow climber reported the fall and stayed with the injured man until a search and rescue crew arrived late Sunday afternoon.
Horse found shot in the head in Central Ore.
BEND (AP) — A horse found shot in the head is recovering at the Bend Equine Medical Center.
The authorities say hunters reported the 6-year-old horse running loose in the Deschutes National Forest late Friday. Citizens helped rescue the hungry-and-thirsty horse, who was wearing a halter with the lead line still attached. The horse was taken to the equine center, and Dr. Wayne Schmotzer says he is recovering remarkably well.
Portland woman injured by rolling vehicle
PORTLAND (AP) — A southeast Portland woman is in critical condition after being struck by a rolling pickup as she stood near her mailbox Sunday. The Portland Police Bureau says 34-year-old Joshua Bertholet was driving fast in a 1985 Nissan pickup when he lost control. The vehicle rolled onto the sidewalk, striking 71-year-old Sau Leung-Kwan. She was taken to OHSU Hospital. Bertholet escaped injury despite being thrown from his pickup; a passenger had minor injuries. Investigators arrested Bertholet on charges of assault, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
