Virginia Mae Odoms
June 22, 1920 - Oct. 16, 2008
Weiser
On Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, Virginia Mae Odoms, 88, went to be with the Lord. Born to John Henry Danks and Myrtle Zoe Rayl Danks on June 22, 1920, in Jasper County, she spent her youth in Iowa before moving to sunny California in the early 1940s. While working as a cook at a boarding house in Long Beach, Calif., Virginia met a handsome young man named Kenneth Odoms. Kenny had a car, and a relationship bloomed between the two after Kenny began driving Virginia to and from Hawthorne, Calif., to visit her mother. In 1942, the couple eloped to Las Vegas and three years later welcomed a little girl, Connie Jo, to the family, before moving to Kenny’s hometown of Weiser, Idaho. In 1949, Virginia and Kenny added a second child to the family, Lesley Kenneth.
Through the years, Virginia found strength in her faith. Her love for the Lord overflowed, and she willingly shared her testimony with all who would listen. A faithful servant, Virginia dedicated many summers to cooking at various summer Bible camps in Washington, California and Idaho.
For 30 years, in between her trips to Jackpot, Nev., Virginia worked as a passionate Stanley Home Products consultant. During this time she made innumerable friends and inspired many with her zest for the Lord, family, friends and life.
In her later years, Virginia actively volunteered countless hours at the Weiser Senior Center, working in the accounting department, raising funds during the annual Fiddle Festival and, most recently, aiding in raising funds for the new building fund.
Virginia is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Kenneth; daughter, Connie Jo, and husband, Leonard Williams; son, Lesley Kenneth, and wife, Dottie Odoms; as well as grandchildren, Rhonda Lavy, Ricky Muth, Cory Muth, Trev Odoms, DeNeé Morehouse, Richie Scott, Todd Odoms; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Don Danks.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Myrtle Zoe Danks; sister, Jenny Owens; brother, Jack Danks; twin brothers, Russ and Bobby Danks; and a grandson, Justin James Hofer.
The family would like to express a sincere “thank you” to the staffs of the Weiser Care Center and Holy Rosary Medical Center for their kindness, their professionalism and their dedication to compassionate care for this wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Virginia Mae Odoms.
