Nyssa blanks Riverside in key Eastern Oregon League win for Bulldogs

Riverside—The Bulldogs put up 14 first quarter points and never looked back on their way to a 34-0 win over Eastern Oregon League rival Riverside, Friday in Riverside.

Nyssa’a Kyle Schoorl pounded out 164 yards rushing on 16 carries to lead the Bulldogs ground attack, while James Larsen lit up the air ways to the tune of 135 yards on  11-of-18 passing and four touchdowns.

The first touchdown came on a 6-yard pass completion from Larsen to Eric Jensen. Larsen added the two-point conversion for a 8-0 lead.

On the second score of the opeing quarer, Dainel Thornley hauled in a 7-yard offering from Larsen, the PAT kick failed, but Nyssa was up 14-0.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs added 13 more points.

Schoorl busted loose on a 33-yard scamper for a score, John Iverson kicked the extra point the Nyssa led 21-0.

Nyssa’s second score in the quarter came when Jensen and Larsen hook up for a 15-yard touchdown, the kick failed but the Bulldogs took a 27-0 lead into the lockerroom.

Nyssa scored its final touchdown of the game in the third quarter on a 35-yard pass from Larsen to Jessie Martinez, Iverson’s kick was true and the Bulldogs were up 34-0 with an entire quarter to play.

“They (Nyssa) showed up and were excited to be there,” Nyssa head coach Lee Long said. “We executed well with the execption of the fumbles.”

Nyssa coughed up the pigskin four times in the win and lost three of them.

“We came into the ball game with the mindset that we were going to win, and that confidence showed in their play,” Long said.

Nyssa ended the night with 363 yards of total offense and improved to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Nyssa will host EOL  foe Grant Union, Friday. Grant Union has yet to lose this season and is coming off 68-8 throttling over Burns.
