Tigers win big on road

Rathdrum, Id.—The Ontario Tiger football team hit the road this weekend for a long-distance match up against the Lakeland Hawks in a non-confernce battle.
Lakeland entered the contest with a 1-4 record while the Tigers boasted a 4-1 mark and following a high-octane game in Rathdrum, the Tigers came home with a 45-14 win.
Ontario began the game with a touchdown in the first quarter on a 4-yard run by Frank Lopez for the early 7-0 lead following the point after kick by Jordan Lang.
Lakeland responded early in the second quarter with a score and kick to tie the contest at seven, but then the Tigers exploded with two scores by Jake Turner. The first was a 18 yard pass from Tad Anzaldua and the second a 48-yard pass.
Lakeland tried to make it interesting with a score on the ensuing kick off, but Ontario answered with Lopez’ second score of the game on a 9-yard run.
Ontario added 13 points in the third quarter for a 39-14 lead and finished the fourth quarter by adding six more points for the final margin of victory.
Lopez led the Tiger ground attack with 108 yards, while Turner pitched in 99 yards in the win.
Anzaldua threw for 194 yard on 11-of-17 passing with three touchdowns.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 5-1 overall and will begin league play at 7 p.m. Friday in Baker City. |
